Das älteste Jnstitut dieser Art in Gothenburg
ist Hr A. Keiller’s; obgleich nur von 1847 hat es
doch schon eine Menge tüchtiger Eleven gebildet;
26 von ihnen haben die See gewählt und
durchpflögen in der Gestalt von Dampfschiffen süsse und
salze Wogen in der Nähe und Ferne; 6 andere
sollen bald ihr Abschiedsexamen machen, um dieselbe
Bahn zu betreten. Andere dagegen haben mehr
Sinn gehabt fürs technische Fach und haben
Anstellung gefunden, theils als Dampfmaschinen bei
Baumwollenspinnereien, Zuckerfabriken etc., theils
als hydraulische Pressen, Turbinen, Dreschwerke
etc. Einige haben sich speciell der Aufklärung
gewidmet und sind bei Gaswerken, z. B. in Norrkö-
Eing, angestellt; andere von Hr Keiller’s Eleven
ha-en die theologische Bahn betreten, nicht weniger
als 47 fungiren jetzt als wohlbestallte und
hochgestellte Kirchenglocken. Viros voco, montuos plangö,
sulphuca frango, rufen sie über die Erde.
Um in gewöhnlicher Redeweise zu sprechen,
hat die abgelieferte Arbeit der Fabrik während der
letzten 5 Jahre den Werth von 2,333,130 Rdr Rm.
betragen und sind durchschnittlich 300 Arbeiter
beständig beschäftigt gewesen. Unser Bild zeigt
uns im Hintergründe Otterhälleberg mit den
darunter liegenden Fabriksgebäuden. Zur Linken sieht
man den einen Flügel von Hotel garni; zur
Rechten den Dampfschornstein von Rosenlunds Fabrik
und noch weiter weg, gleichsam ausgestossen von
diesem freundlichen Bilde, erhebt sich auf der
Bergesspitze der Gefängnissthurm Kronan, gleich einer
versteinerten Warnung.

specielt åt upplysningens sak och blifvit använda
vid gasverken, t. ex. vid det i Norrköping; andra
af hr Keillers elever hafva just under denna tid gått
theologiska vägen (de äro icke mindre än 47 stycken)
fungera nu som välbeställde och högt uppsatta
kyrko-klockor. Vivos voco, mortuos plango, sulphucafraags,
ropa de nu öfver jorden.
För att tala i vanlig redogörelsestil har under
de sednaste fem åren tillverkningen vid verkstaden
uppgått till ett värde af 2,333,130 Rdr Rmt, och i
medeltal hafva 300 arbetare ständigt varit
sysselsatta. Vår planche framställer i bakgrunden
Ötter-hälleberget med de derunder belägna
Verkstadsbyggnaderna. Till venster synes den ena flygeln
af Hotel garni. Till höger ängskorstenen till
Rosenlundsfabriken, och ännu längre bort, likasom
utstött från denna leende tafla, höjer sig fångtornet
Kronan från bergspetsen likt en förstenad varning.

establishments where they are formed and brought
up!
The eldest institution of this kind is Mr
Alexander Keiller’s. And yet the year of its birth is
no farther back than 1847. — But what a mumber
of fine pupils have been formed by Mr Keiller
since that time! Twenty-six of the number have
chosen a seafaring life as their vitce genus and in
the shape of steam-boats have betaken themselves
to cleaving both fresh and salt waves, far and near.
Six more will soon have to undergo a probationary
examination, with a view of following the same
career. Others again have shown a taste for
technical callings and have obtained situations as
steam-engines in cottou-mills, sugar refineries etc. and
some as hydraulic presses, turbines etc. Some have
specially devoted them selves to the work of
enlightenment and have been employed at Gasworks,
as for instance at NorrkOping; others of Mr
Keillers pupils have just at this very time made choice
of the church; for no less than 47 in number, are
now operating as wcll-and-highly-placed church
Bells. Vivos voco, mortuos plango, sulphuca frango
is now their cry over the earth. But to
descend from the figurative style and speak in plain
matter of fact terms, the value of the machinery
which has been made at this factory during the last
five years amounts to no less than 2,333,130 Rdr
Rmt, equal to rather more than £ 130,750, and
an avarage of 300 workmen have been constantly
employed. The background of our engraving
comprises the „Otterhalleberg“ with the factory
buildings beneath it. To the left is seen a wing of the
Hotel Garni. The high chimney to the right is that
of Rosenlund cotton-mill, and still farther on,
as if thrust out from this smiling picture, the prison
tower “the Crown“ stands forth like a petrified
warning.
