I send herewith the pamphlet on the Apocrypha and the
Wes-leyan Catechisms which after all our care were left behind, when
you set off. The Temperance Report received this day from
London may also interest you.
This’ evening I understand the Methodist case will be decided
on; it has gone thro’ the Statsrådsberedning without any opposition
but Hartmansdorffs which was most violent. Heurlin takes it simply
as a question of purchase & building without at all referring to the
report of the Consistory.
I am necessitated to close hurriedly. Mr. & Mrs. Owen &
family, and my dear wifie unite with me in respectful & affectionate
remembrances. I need not say how gratefully I shall receive a few
lines from your hand in English or Swedish whichever you may
prefer.

I beg to send herewith the book desired by Your Excellency.
I am informed that the Methodist case was brought forward
last Friday, and an agreement come to that the Chapel in question
might be erected, but that the Conference should have no right of
property in the building. Such a decision if finally come to must
be considered in the light of a refusal, as in order to contract the
preaching in such places; in order to secure that the wellunderstood
and approved doctrines of Methodism and none other shall be
declared there, the Conference uniformly reserves to itself the right of
possession or use as regards all Chapels to which that body
appoints Preachers. Nor can such be considered unreasonable in this
case when it is remembered that the greater part of the funds for
the erection has been furnished by the Conference without any hope
or purpose of promoting merely Methodist objects.
Knowing the deep and truly Christian interest Your Excellency
is pleased to take in this matter, I feel it my duty to notice this
device of the enemy by which, if successful, our hopes of doing
good among our Swedish fellow Christians would be at once de-
