2-]Ö meddelanden och aktstycken
liver it I engage my selfe in a worldly busines and may loose the
Chancelor, whoe knoweth not as yet that 1 doe knowe any thing
of this worke. Thus it is continually, worldly matters crosse
spiri-tuall endeavours; For in all thinges the flesh and the spirit are at
varience; I can see noe assistance that he is willing to give vnto
me eyther spirituall or temporall in my worke. And yet yf I doe
not assist him in a matter that will spoyle mine owne spirituall
worke, or at least make it liable to extreame Jealousies, I am like
to loose him quite. But it is nature of the world, men Consider
only thems[elues] and noe body els, you may tell him this in
Ge-nerall saying only that I found a difficultie in delivering his
message to the Chancelor by reason of mine owne worke least I should
be suspected to drive the one for the others sake, yet that I would
watch the oppertunitie to doe what I can handsomely and then will
write him an answere, when I have made an end of my worke in
Denmarke. I have a minde to retire my selfe to a setled way of
writing and meditation to elaborate my owne and some of Mr.
Co-men [ius] Pansophicall taskes soe farre as God shall enable me,
And to this effect I would desire to be supported besides my Lord
Rosencrantz to Comunicate in all thinges with him for the better
perfecting of the same. I write nothing for ye present of my
deliberations and intentions concerning this meeting, because all is
vncertaine & suspence. I pray you remember me in your prayers.
[John Durie].
To Jacob Rudbeckius
(Stockholm, 19 Jan. 1638.)
Gratiam et Pacem!
Libellus iste quem hic apposui, Clariss:e Vir, tuå lectione forsan
indignus non futurus est: Spectat enim ad studia Vocationi tuæ
propria, quæ versantur in recta Juventutis Educatione, in facilitanda
Scientiæ humanæ Methodo, & perficienda Scholarum Reformatione,
quæ omnia hoc seculo multis multorum votis & conatibus obijciuntur
studia. Ego autem propter affinitatem quandam quam hæc habere
possunt cum studio Concordiæ Religiosæ, & propter animi mei
promp-titudinem, in re qualibet publico vtili promovenda, non invitus
opellam soleo contribuere meam talibus institutis subsidiariam. Ideo
nunc hoc testimonium meæ ergo tuam vocationem benevolentiæ
Humanitate tuæ non ingratum fore confido: Quoniam ab animo
simplici, rerum optimarum cupidissimo, proborum omnium studioso,
& tui observante proficiscitur.
’ Oxenstiernska saml. (RA). A tergo: Copia Epistolæ missæ ad Dom.
Jacobum Rudbeckium Rectorem Scholæ Holmensis Episcopi Arosiensis Fratrem:
Ad tollendum Dissidiuin inter ilium Episcopum & Johannem Duræum exortum.
