To Calculate Diameter of Gears when Distance Between
Centers and Ratio of Speed is Given.
When calculating gears to connect two shafts of given dis-
tance between centers and at a given ratio of speed, use the
formula,

n + JV

n + N
D = Diameter of large gear.
d = Diameter of small gear.
iS" = Distance between centers in inches.
JV= Number of revolutions of large gear per minute.
n = Number of revolutions of small gear per minute.
Note.— The small gear is always on the shaft having the
greater speed.
