This will, then, when the screw-
is fitted in its nut, secure a clear-
ance at the top and bottom and
fit on the slant side of the thread,
as shown by Figure I.

The maximum tap shall have a flat at top of the thread equal
to one-sixteenth of the pitch and the difference between maximum
and minimum external diameter will allow at the top of
thread of tap any width of flat between one-sixteenth and one-
eighth of the pitch.
