vases and the frail Venetian glasses on the
sideboard, to the Persian rugs on the floor.
“I suppose you got this at the Bon Marché,”
said Norstrom staring maliciously at the priceless
old Bukhara rug under the table.
“I will give it to you with pleasure in exchange
for a single night’s natural sleep. You are
welcome to this unique Urbino vase signed by
Maestro Giorgio himself if you can make me
laugh. I do not want all this stuff any more, it
says nothing to me, I am sick of it. Stop that
irritating smile of yours, I know what I am saying,
I am going to prove it to you.
