After Laurentius Petri had been made archbishop in
1531, he published, in collaboration with Olavus Petri
and possibly others, the Swedish Bible, under the title,
Biblia, Thet är all then Helga Scrifft pa Swensko.
It was printed in 1540—41, at Uppsala. The
translation conformed more closely to Luther’s translation
than had the Swedish version of the New Testament by
Olavus Petri, published in 1526.

In 1555 Laurentius Petri published a voluminous
Postil, the bulk of which is made up of sermons
rendered from the German. In 1553 he had issued a new
edition of the Psalm Book, and in 1567 he published
the Swedish Psalm Book under the title: Then
Swenska Psalmeboken förbättrat och medh flere Songer
förmerat och Kalendarium.
This revised edition
contained thirty-nine new hymns, most of them written or
translated by Olavus Petri, including nos. 16, 24, 134,
and 194 in the book now in use.

In the early part of his reign, Eric XIV. had
leanings toward Calvinism. This caused Laurentius Petri
to publish, in 1562, a polemical work in dialogue form
entitled, "On Sundry Points Relating to the Holy
Supper of Our Lord Jesus Christ" (Om någor stycker
wårs Herras Jesu Christi Nattvard anrörandes).

Under King John III., who inclined to Romanism, the
aged archbishop in 1571 published "The Swedish
Church Service" (Then Swenska Kyrkeordningen).
