after the death of his co-worker Laurentius Andreae.
The great Swedish Church Reformer went peacefully
to sleep "after having made an edifying Christian
preparation and an express confession of his faith in Christ
Jesus." His remains were buried in Stockholm, close
to the pulpit from which he had so often preached.
Blessed be his memory, and God be thanked for the
work of this His servant!
At the joint commemoration at Uppsala, in 1893, of
the Uppsala Council of 1593 and of the birth of Olavus
Petri one hundred years before, it was resolved to erect
a monument to that foremost Church Reformer of
Sweden, and in 1898 a statue of Olavus Petri was
placed in front of Storkyrkan in Stockholm. It was
unveiled on September thirtieth, with imposing
ceremonies, in the presence of the royal family,
representatives of the Church in council assembled, and a large
multitude. On the pedestal are inscribed these words
from the introduction to "The Swedish Mass":
"We Swedes Also Belong to God,
as Well as Other People,
and the Tongue We Speak,
That God Hath Givsn Us."
The works of Olavus Petri were republished, 1914—
17, in an edition de luxe of four large volumes, by the
Swedish Students1 Christian Movement, the text being
reproduced literatim and edited by Professor Bengt
