Preface to the electronic edition
Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson’s essay on "Modern Norwegian Literature" was
published in Forum (New York), in the German weekly
Zukunft, in Norwegian monthly Kringsjaa and in Danish
journal Tilskueren in 1896
(vol. 13), pages 265—277.
This Dutch translation by Margaretha Meijboom appeared as a book the
same year. The book has been digitized in April 2013 at KB, Nationale
Bibliotheek van Nederland by Google, from where the scanned images and
OCR text in February 2026 were copied to Project Runeberg.
