712. Do you think it would be convenient,
in consecpience of what has taken place, that the
further consideration of their case should be
postponed to Thursday? — 1 think it would; ue
Lave had no] time fully to consider their proposition.
Mr. Serjeant Tindal Atkiuson was
heard, on the part of the Submarine Com
pany, to apply that their case should stand
over till Thursday.
713. Mr. Rodwe 11.*) They are all connect
ed one with another, are they not? — No, they
are rat!, er conjlicting one with the other.
714. I mean they all want consideration
together? — Yes.
715. The consideration of them is con
uected? — Yes.
Mr. Yernon Harcourt was heard to
apply that the further consideration of the
Bill should be postponed till Thursday, by
which time the result would be known as to
the negociatious now in progress.

1035. The Chairrnan.f) Do you think that
there would be as great or greater security against
secrecy bepg violated, if the matter is in the hands
of the Government? — 1 think that there would be
greater security, on account of reasons which 1
will slortly mention. At present dpi ers are very
Utile employed by the public, and if they were
employed, 1 believe that many messages which now
are not sent, would be sent by the telegraph lines;
and if the Post Office were to issue instructions
hy wl ich the public might be put into possession
of what dphers they might use, and the security
depended upon them. 1 think that almost any per
sons of ordinary intelligence, would be able to
send their Communications by cipher, w! ich they do
not noiv.
1064. Mr. Leemau.ft) May I ask if you
have seen the case to which I referred in the
House of Commous? — No.
1065. That was the case of au English
gentleman håving a large contract with the French
Government, who went over to France, who was
there three weeks uegociating with the French
Minister, who received telegrams during that

Hr. Serjeant Tindal Atkiuson erklærede
paa Submarine Co.’s Yegne, at han ønskede,
at dets Sag maatte udsættes til Thorsdag.
713. Hr. Rod wel 1*). De staa alle i For
bindelse med hveraudre, ikke sandt? — Nei, de
staa snarere i Strid med hverandre.
Overveielse sammen? — Ja.
715. Overveielsen af dem hænger sammen?
Ja.
Hr.

For Nærværende anvendes Ziffre

tydede i Underhuset? — Nei.
franske Regjering.
franske Minister. I disse tre Uger modtog hau
