be called «the City of the Fountain». The com- pleted production will eminently justify this state- ment. At all events, Vigeland’s fountain will be the greatest attraction of its kind in modern times. Oslo City has erected special studios for Vigeland, and other funds for the realisation of this great plan have been furnished from the receipts of the municipal cinemas. Another very prominent sculptor is Vilhelm Rasmussen (1879-), who has executed many of the sculptures in Trondheim Cathedral. He is now engaged on the production of the Eidsvold Monu- ment in Oslo. This work, a huge column surmount- ed by a lion, is being erected in commemoration of the proclamation at Eidsvoll of Norway’s inde- pendence in 1814, and is to be erected in front of the Storting in Oslo. In the forefront of younger sculptors we may mention Dyre Vaa (1903-), Nikolay Schigll, Stinius Fredriksen, Emil Lie, @rnulf Bast, Per Strgm, Anne Grimdalen, Asbjérg Borgfeldt, and Emma Mathiassen. 69
