apparel (ready-made clothing, boots and shoes,
textiles), foods, drinks, tobacco, etc., glassware,
and a substantial part of the production of
engineering works. Norway imports a consider-
able portion of her corn requirements, but the
grinding is done in her own mills. The raw
materials needed for sugar and chocolate manu-
factures are also imported, but finished chocolate
and sugar products of the highest quality are
manufactured.
The organ of Norwegian manufacturers in the
export as well as the home trades is Norges Indu-
striforbund (Federation of Norwegian Industries),
Oslo. The managing director of the federation is
Mr. Lorentz Vogt.
ALUMINIUM
The Norwegian Aluminium Industry dates from
1906, in which year The British Aluminium Com-
pany commenced the erection of an aluminium
plant at Stangfjorden in Séndfjord. In 1907-08 the
Anglo-Norwegian Aluminium Company built alu-
minium and electrode works at Vigeland Brug
near Kristiansand. These plants were some years
later taken over by The British Aluminium Co., who
now have at their disposal 8500-11,400 kw. from
their own power works at Vigeland Brug, with
a yearly capacity of 3400 tons; also 1700 kw. from
their own power plant at Stangfjorden, and, in
