addition, approximately 1600 kw. of leased energy representing a productive capacity of 800 tons. The next aluminium company in Norway, Det Norske Nitridaktieselskap, was founded in 1912. Its original object was the manufacture of alumi- nium nitride, but the method that was to be employed turned out to be impracticable on an industrial scale, and consequently the plant was built for the production of metallic aluminium by the electrolytic method, at Eydehavn in 1913. About 18,000 kw. of hydro-electric energy was leased from the Arendals Fossekompani, and the yearly productive capacity is 5000 tons. In 1916 the same company put up another aluminium plant in Tyssedal with 22,000 kw. of leased power; this factory was extended in 1924 for the employ- ment of a total of 33,000 kw. and a capacity of 11,000 tons, so that the company’s aggregate capac- ity is 16,000 tons. At its Eydehavn works the company manufactures its own electrodes for both of the aluminium plants. In 1915 a new aluminium company was formed under the style of A/S H@yangfaldene, Norsk Aluminium Company, which held rights in the Hgyanger watercourse yielding a total of approxi- mately 60,000 kw. all-the-year power. The first 20,000 kw. were developed in the years 1916-18 with corresponding aluminium and_ electrode plants for a yearly production of 8000 tons. The company has secured good bauxite deposits in the south of France and in South America, and in 83
