type of locomotive is of outstanding design. A/S
Eureka Mek. Verksted manufactures and exports
marine pumps.
An industry that is barely a quarter of a
century old, but which has built up an extensive
export market, is the Norwegian motor-engine
trade. Norwegian motor builders have succeeded
in producing types eminently suitable for use in
fishing vessels, and which fill the high standard
required in so perilous a pursuit as fishing. In
the ordinary types the makers primarily aim at
turning out an engine of simple and powerful
construction giving dependability under all con-
ditions.
The small number of fishing vessels lost along
the Norwegian coast in the course of the year
is eloquent proof of the fact that makers have
evolved motor types that give practically perfect
reliability of service.
It may be of interest to note that 80 per cent.
of the 20,000 or so of registrable vessels in the
Norwegian fishing fleet are motor-engined, and
the preponderating number of these engines are
of Norwegian make.
Of builders whose motors have gained the
greatest recognition and are exported in fairly
considerable numbers, we may mention A/S Mo-
toren “Rap”, whose engine bears the same name;
A/S De Forenede Motorfabrikker, makers of the
«Union» motor, and M. Haldorsen & Son, who build
the «Wichmann» engine.
