The most important markets for mechanical
pulp are Great Britain, France, Belgium, the
United States, Denmark, and Holland; and for
chemical pulp Great Britain, the United States,
France, British East Indies, Japan, Italy, Holland,
Belgium, and Germany.
TINNED FISH
The first modern cannery in Norway was
erected on the West Coast in 1873. For many
years the output was a small one, but from 1895
until the outbreak of the Great War the fish-
packing industry underwent exceptionally rapid
growth. This expansion is clearly evidenced in
the fact that the production of brisling-sardines,
which is the main product of this industry, in-
creased in value about one hundred times during
