THE STATE GRAIN MONOPOLY The State Grain Monopoly (Statens Kornforret- ning) was established by an Act of June 28, 1928, pursuant to which the State exercises the exclu- sive right to import wheat, rye, barley, oats, and any ground product thereof. The object of the State Grain Monopoly is to import from abroad such quantities of grain and flour as are necessary to meet home requirements, and to sell such products in the most expedient way and at the lowest possible prices. Its further object is to encourage the domestic production of corn, it being incumbent upon the Monopoly to purchase all the home-grown corn offered for sale, providing it is fit for human consumption. The purchase price of Norwegian corn is based on the price at which the Monopoly sells its products with the addition of a certain, excess price. In the past this excess price has been 4/2 ore per kilogramme for rye, wheat, barley, and 4 gre for oats. For the grain-year 1934/35 it has been decided that the Monopoly shall pay an additional emergency price sufficient to bring the excess payment up to 9 ore for rye 123
