In the towns of Tonsberg, Arendal, Hamar, Bod, Kristiansand, and Fredrikstad the sale of wines and spirits was negotiated by the old Samlag institutions. Wines and spirits were thus retailed in fifteen towns. In addition, wines alone are sold in a number of towns through the medium of Samlag and Monopoly shops. Wines and spirits may also be ordered by and despatched to persons in towns and country districts where no retail shops exist. The value of the trade done by the Monopoly in 1923 was 36.5 million Kroner, and it increased to 56.2 mill. Kr. in 1925. On the removal of the embargo on spirituous liquors in 1927 sales rose steadily to about 80 mill. Kr. in 1930. In 1932 the turnover had fallen to Kr. 69.260.400.
