noteworthy journey of discovery to Siberia in 1828-30. In 1870-80 Carl Bock made discoveries in Dutch Borneo and India. In the ’eighties and *nineties to 1905 Carl Lumholtz explored North Queensland and Mexico, and later (1914-16) continued Bock’s work in Borneo. Norwegians have also taken part in nearly all important foreign polar expeditions, and a great number of these have chartered or purchased Norwegian expedition ships. 202
