the most cordial wellwishes for the Synod’s important daily
work to promote the honor of God in the coming of His
kingdom. I shall deem it a precious privilege to bring the
Evangelical Lutheran Christians of Sweden the testimony
about the love conferred upon them in my person by the
brethren in the General Synod, and this I hope will, by
God’s grace, help to strengthen the fellowship between you
and us in Christ Jesus, our adorable Lord.
Det var med anledning häraf, som man beslutit låta vid
min afresa tillställa mig följande värderika prof på
Generalsynodens högaktning och välvilja för den kyrka, jag hade
äran att företräda: »It would be a graceful and pleasing last
act, if that could be put into Dr. von Schéele’s hands this
last day of his stay here». Resolutionerna, som voro daterade
den 31 maj 1893, alltså på själfva födelsedagen, åtföljdes af
en skrifvelse, som hade denna lydelse:
Honored Brother in Christ,
By action of our late General Synod I am instructed to
convey to you the resolutions adopted at Canton, which I
herewith transcribe for your information. Wishing you a
safe and enjoyable voyage across the ocean to your home,
I am sincerely and faithfully Yours

Resolved, That the General Synod learns with regret
that the engagements of Bishop von Schéele deny us the
privilege of greeting him in person, and through him the
dear brethren of our Lutheran household in Sweden.
Resolved, That we most cordially reciprocate the
fraternal sentiments expressed by our honored Christian brother
in his communication to this body, and that we authorize
him on his return to convey to ourifellow Lutherans in his.
land our high regard for their fidelity to Christ, His Word
and Church, and for their zeal and sacrificing labors for the
promotion of His kingdom.
Resolved, That it is a matter of joy to us, as
practically illustrated here, that the great Lutheran Church, the
