THE STEEL FOUNDRY

is an establishment of which the Works may well be proud. It is in direct connection with the Siemens-Martin works.

The foundries at present cover an area of about 5,537 sq. metres. About 20 stationary and travelling cranes move across it, the most powerful having a lifting capacity of 50 tons. All the arrangements here are perfectly first-class and up-to-date. Special care has been paid to the annealing of the steel castings. Some of the furnaces for this purpose are very large. The arrangements for removing the ingot heads and cleaning the castings are quite modern and the gun shops are well supplied with modern machinery of the most powerful kind for the purpose of manufacture.
