with ogival screw, a construction which has become typical for Bofors. A wedge
mechanism has also been constructed at the Works for use together with cartidges and
has been adopted on a number of small guns and howitzers.

The construction of the carriages is also of special importance, as quick firing and
precision depend very greatly on this point. Bofors has paid great attention to this
matter and has solved the problem in a satisfactory manner. The Works’ first-class
steel castings are used to advantage for large carriages, while pressed steel plate is used
for small ones.

Besides numerous carriages for turrets as well as casemates of men-of-war, Bofors
has supplied a number of carriages to coastal as well as land fortifications and for
field-guns, position- and field-howitzers.

To the Bofors splendid Siemens-Martin steel is due a great part.of the credit for
the considerable progress made in the manufacture of projectiles at the Works. In
addition, in the heat treatment of armour-piercing projectiles, methods have been
adopted which have been developed after years of experiments by means of expensive
shooting and other tests of the materials.
