THE KÖPING BLAST-FURNACE
produces about 11,000 tons of foundry iron and Siemens-Martin pig-iron yearly. The
former can be had with either high or low percentage of phoshporus. The latter
partly goes to Kohlswa to be refined there.
The blast-furnace at Köping was erected in 1897, and was at one time the largest in
Sweden. It was taken over by Kohlswa in 1918.
THE KOHLSWA IRON & STEEL WORKS
consist of the following establishments:
4 SIEMENS-MARTIN FURNACES, 2 acid and 2 basic; one of these oil-fired.
1 ELECTRIC STEEL FURNACE.
2 STEEL FOUNDRIES with shops for annealing, cleaning and pattern-making.
BLOOMING-, INTERMEDIATE- and FINISHING ROLLING MILLS.
FORGING PRESS and HAMMER-WORKS, with 2 hydraulic presses of 800 and 360 tons,
2 steam hammers, and spring- and drop-hammers.
