Interior from the Mechanical Workshops.
A MACHINE SHOP equipped with modern machineries and lathes for turning,
planing, &c. of steel castings and forgings, and for private repairs. Especially may be
mentioned the Works’ capacity of machining ship forgings, such as propeller shafts,
&c., in lengths of up to 12 metres.
Until a few years ago there was a considerable production of Lancashire iron, but
it has now ceased.
Besides the iron works, the Company owns about 500 hectares (1,200 acres) of
arable land and 3,500 hectares (8,700 acres) of first class timber land.
