dockyards, and they are also much employed for locomotives and stationary boilers.
During the last few years there has been begun and carried on the production of chromium
steel tubes for ball-bearings, and has proved a very successful venture.
Tube blooms of nickel steel are manufactured for special purposes, where great tenacity
and elasticity are demanded. Others of the Company’s specialities are file-steel and tool
steel, which have gained the undivided approbation of the trade. Sandviken’s hollow and
solid drill steel has long had the best reputation, and is in great demand in the
international market. Among the various rolled tool steel products may be noticed many kinds of
knife steel, and steel for scythes, chisels and tap-steel.
FORGED PRODUCTS.
Among these may be mentioned tool-steel, steel for stone-working tools and for
blacksmith tools and machine forgings. The latter is celebrated for the exactness of its
measurements and is supplied in both large and small dimensions, up to about 9 tons. It is
produced of a material possessing great tenacity, and is much employed for propeller shafts,
