KLOSTERS AKTIEBOLAG, LÅNGSHYTTAN
(THE KLOSTER CO., LTD., LÅNGSHYTTAN.)
THE Company’s Works embrace blast furnaces. Bessemer works, Siemens-Martin
works with 3 furnaces, electric steel works, steel forge, foundry, blooming- and
billet mills, bar-, wire- and sheet rolling mills.
The principal centres of the Company’s steel manufacture are the two works
Långshyttan and Stjernsund, situated in the province of Dalecarlia (W. N. W. of Stockholm),
on the narrow-gauge By valla-Långshytt an Railway, which is entirely thep roperty of
the Company and connects Långshyttan and Stjernsund with the Great Northern
State Railway, at Byvalla station.
MANUFACTURES:
PIG IRON, INGOTS, rolled and forged STEEL, WIRE RODS and SHEETS. CARBON STEEL from
0*05 to I’50% carbon. SPECIAL STEEL for various purposes and in all practical
combinations, SUch as HIGH SPEED STEEL, BALL BEARING STEEL; STEEL FOR TWIST DRILLS,
CONSTRUCTIONAL STEEL of high tensile strength (200 kgs. per mm 2 and upwards) for MOTOR
CAR MANUFACTURE, &C., &C.
The Kloster Company also carries on farming on a very large scale, and owns large
forests and saw mills. The forests cover about 50,000 acres. The Kloster Company has
a branch firm - the Rällingsbergs Grufaktiebolag (Rällingsberg Mining Company) -
which owns a number of iron mines, the principal of which are the
Rällingsberg-the Smältarmossgruvan- and the Sjögruvan.
