WIRE DRAWING DEPARTEMENT.
These were erected in 1883, but have twice been modernized and re-built, the last
time in 1917. They turn out steel wire of various dimensions and for various purposes.
A part of the wire drawn is employed at the Company’s own wire-rope factory, for
the manufacture of mine-ropes, ropes for power transmission, ship cables, &c.
THE SAW-BLADE FACTORY
was built in 1870 and has since been modernized. It manufactures a great
variety of saw-blades, tools of compound steel for planing machines, tobacco- and
paper-machine knives. A special department manufactures springs for railway
carriages, and springs for steam- and gas engines.
AUXILIARY INDUSTRIES.
Of the auxiliary industries existing at every large iron works there are at Fagersta
a foundry, for the Company’s own requirements, repair and patternshop and finally
saw mill with two frames, chip- or shingle-saw, edging bench, &c.
