not coloured or variously pale blue with J. Hymenium 70—80 u
high, either perithecium-like with narrow yellowish brown mouth
in young apothecia, or plane, disciform with upper 8 u dark
yellowish brown, with J coloured blue. Paraphyses coherent, in
water somewhat discrete, 1.7—2 u thick, not capitate, articles 8—6 u.
Asci scarce, 50—60*13—15 u, with irregular outlines. Spores
relatively few, about one hundred, narrowly ellipsoid, 4—5 X 1.5—2 u.
Habitat. On sunny basaltic rock among specimens of Aspicilia sp.
and invading upon their thallus. Traces of Candelariella vitellina present.
Locality.
France, depart. Var. “Massif voleanique de Ja Courtine prés Ollisules”.
Leg. A. DE CR0OZALS, May 1923. Sent by Dr. B. DE LEsDarN.
Type specimen in hb. BouLy DE LESDAIN, Dunkerque.
An excellent and obvious species, distinguished by its smooth,
dark brown, continuous, subradiate thallus with C-reaction and the
inconspicuous apothecia. The presence of the substance obscuring
the medulla is also a striking feature.
According to the description A. complanata seems to come very
near L. melaplaca Nyl., but on account of the brownish hypothecium
and the very small spores in the latter they do not seem to be
identical.
