Type specimens in my herbarium and in hb. Frey, Bern.

A. helvelica comes very near to A. rosulata, but it seems to be
specifically different both in habitus and anatomy. The latter has
a more reddish brown shining thallus with often numerous, always
concave and impressed apothecia, a more loosely contexted medulla,
and a slightly higher hymenium, which is coloured uniformly dark
blue with J.

7. Acarospora opaca H. Magn. n. sp.

Acarospora fuscata M. KNOWLES in Maritime and Marine Lichens of Howth
(1913), p. 131.

"Thallus areolatus, obscure fuscus, opacus, areolis dispersis vel
paucis contiguis, rimis separatis, angulosis, subtus atris, reagentibus
immutatis. Apothecia in areolis pauca, rotundata, plana, minuta,
discus thallo concolor. Hymenium angustum, jodo caerulescens.

Areolae dispersed or some contiguous along the inequalities of
the stone, (0.5—)1—2 mm. broad and 0.3—0.5 mm. thick, irregular,
usually angulate, separated by eracks, dark reddish brown, opaque,
rather plane and even, with the margin more or less free from
the stone, unaltered by KOH and CaCl,O, lower side blackish.

Upper cortex 30—55 u, white, exterior 5—8 w reddish brown,
amorphous stratum 0—10 u. Hyphae intricate or more or less
perpendicular, with round or vertically stretched 3—6 X 3 a lumina.
Gonidia yellowish green, 8—14 u, in a not dense, 60—100 u high
stratum with even upper surface and indistinct lower limit, unbroken
or with very thin, not easily visible strands of hyphae. Medulla
mostly containing single gonidia, with 3—4 u thick, pachyder-
malous, intricate hyphae and small air-spaces between. Lower
cortex blackish brown, about 15 u thick.
