A. opaca resembles at first sight A. fuscata and has like this
species a blackish lower surface. But the absence of C-reaction, the
opaque, not lobate and dark areolae and the shape of the apothecia
are good specific characteristics. Perhaps it is more nearly related
to A. atrata Hue [Lich. morph. et anat. (1909) p. 142], but the
latter has contiguous areolae and elevated apothecia, according to
the description, and therefore they must be different species.
