licensed, is no longer permissible. Modern writers use the
indicative for the subjunctive in like cases. det vor allt=

comparison.

9. ty for därför is an archaism, sometimes used for
metrical reasons; ty in the sense of because does not require
the inverted order (vill jag).
Ur HERDEKVÄDE.
1. Celadon, in the pastoral poetry of various countries a
favorite name for a sentimental rustic lover. Cf. the
corresponding character in Thomson’s "The Seasons,” which
:antedated Dalin’s Herdaspel (Herdekväde); also that of the
early French pastoral poem "Astrée,” by Honoré d’Urfé,
where Celadon is a pastoral lover, doubtless the model for
both Thomson’s and Dalin’s. The statement that Celadon,
in French literature, is a stock name for a "”courtly lover”
(Int. Dictionary) seems somewhat misleading in view of
the fact that Astrée was a pronounced contrast to the
romances of court life prevalent in the literature of the time
when it was written (about 1610). — Note the force of the
article — en Celadon.
6. tör, for törs (töras, to dare); tör, torde (may, might)
is now an auxiliary verb only, the two being no longer
interchangeable.
7. går...an, one of numerous combinations with an,
which, separate or prefixed, is employed to convey shades
