15. bildningen. Some annotators interpret this as
meanning inbillningen (fancy, imagination), basing the
assumption on the fact that the original title had "inbildningens
värld” (the imaginary world). Admittedly, bildning in the
sense of "culture” would seem out of place in the context.

82. din tanke, the thought of thee.

This poem, formerly published as original, has been found
to be a translation from the Danish.

DEN GLADA FESTEN.

1. Pristgåln, for prästgården, the first of many colloquial
forms found in this poem cast in the vernacular mold
throughout. Cf. kyrkherrgåln, saln, pokaln, sjutti, grinn.

9. nattyg, literally night apparel, is said to apply
specifically to a kind of fluted or plaited cap for morning wear.

10. korndrällsduken, probably diapered linen, the pattern
being embellished with woven knots or dots resembling
grains.

14. kyrkherrgåln (kyrkherr-gåln), the parson being
colloquially called kyrkherrn (kyrkoherden).

20. fyller... .år, completes his seventieth year; fylla år,
colloquially, have a birthday.

30. trogen önskan, good wishes, congratulations.

31. bunden, "tied (around)” would apply to the
housecoat, but not to the following treat; hence the meaning is
apparently, put under obligations.

44. grinn, for grinden, represents both a colloquial
corruption and the elision of the postpositive article.

57. dotter for dottern here lends a tone of familiarity.

68. The first words of the Lord’s prayer have retained
their old order corresponding to the Latin, Pater noster.

77. The double meaning of mål! (goal and meal) would
indicate an intentional play on the word.

84. Two of the strings of the lutelike hurdy-gurdy were
tuned a fifth part, producing a monotonous drone at the
