En gammal engelsk dikt öfver detta ämne, författad af THOMAS, Vicary of
Wymborne, omtalas af MALONE (The Plays of W. Shakspeare. Basel
1802. XX, 3, 231). GOWER (död 1408, se WARTON, History of Engl.
Poetry. II, 225) har i sin Confessio Amantis (Lib. VIII. ed. 1555, s.
175–185) behandlat samma ämne efter Gottfrieds från Viterbo bearbetning,
och Gowers har åter legat till grund för SHAKSPEARES skådespel Pericles
Deremot är från Fransyskan öfversatt den gamla engelska prosaiska »The
mooste pytefull history of the noble Appolyn kyng of Thyre, transl. from
the french by ROBERT COPLAND. London, Wynkyn de Worde, 1510», 4:o,
äfvensom tvenne andra bearbetningar, likaledes på prosa: »The most
excellent, pleasant and variable hystory of the strange adventures of Pr.
Appolonius, Lucine his wyfe and Tharsia his daughter, publish. by W.
HOWE. London 1576», 4:o, och »The patterne of painful adventures,
containing the most excellent, pleasant and variable historie of the strange
accidents that befell unto prince Appollonius, the lady Lucina his wife
and Tharsia his daughter, wherein the uncertaintie of this world and the
fickle state of man’s life are lively described. Translated into English
by T. TWINE. London 1607», 8:o.
På Spanska finnes en dikt i 656 coplas från 13:de århundradet,
kallad «Libre d’Apollonio», utgifven i SANCHEZ’ Colleccion de poesias
Castell. Paris 1842, s. 531—561; äfvensom TIMONEDA behandlat
samma ämne i sina Patranas (Alcala 1576 och Bilbao 1580).
På Fransyska eger bibliotheket i Chartres en gammal
bearbetning i handskrift under titel: »Lystoire de Apollonius qui apres les
pestilences et fortunes quil ot en mer et ailleurs fust roy de Antioche» (se
DUPLESSIS, Catalogue des mss. de la bibl. de Chartres. Chartres
1840, N:o 411); äfvensom i British Museum finnes en fransysk öfversättning
från Latinet i handskrift från 15:de seklet (se DoUCE, l. c., s. 402).
