But at the Wailing Place all was hushed, except
for the sobs of weary Jewish hearts. The Place
was filled with young and old gathered on the
eve of the Sabbath, according to venerable custom,
Nazareth
to read the p romises of Jehovah in this sacred
place before the Wall of Solomon’s Temple, now
desecrated by infidels, it is true, but not for
always; filled with sobbing old folks who pressed
forward to the sacred stones of the wall and
rev-erently, tenderly kissed them, kissed them again
and again with holy fervor, patted them with
affec-tionate hands, and in voices choking with emotion
murmured tender words as to a living thing. “Yea,
