and as a young scholar she responded with such
eagerness and ability to learn that she within a few
years had beeome an accomplished linguist and
in-dependent thinker. In 1868 she was married to a
distinguished scholar and teacher who afterwards
became a Methodist minister in America, with whom
she served her church for more than fifty years.
In later years, when her sons and daughters had
léft the home, she had more time to devote her
talents to promote the great cause of missions which
She loved dearly. As editor of the Woman’s
Mis-sionary department in “Sändebudet” she inspired
many of the members of the Church to greater
activity.
It is not too much to say that Mrs. Hensehen was
one of the most distinguished and beloved women
of our church. It could not be otherwise. She
loved God and was a friend of all mankind, trying
to discover the good sides of those with whom she
came in contact. She loved thruth and beauty and
goodness. These virtues radiated from her face.
Add to this her sincere humility, making everyhody
feel at ease in her company.
She was buried in the cemetery at Chesterton,
be-side -her eldest daughter, Mrs. A. Eeese, who passed
away in 1915.
