Company’s wood goods business
has been increased by the
addition of large industrial
concerns in Gothenburg.
A. B. Strömman &
Larsson handles every
year 14,000 standards of
sawn and planed wood
goods, of which quantity,
however, 6,000 standards
are transformed at this
Company’s own
box-board factories into box
material, and 1,700
standards into fully
manufactured joinery goods.
A. B. Niels B. Parelius handles about 13,000 standards sawn and planed goods
yearly, 6,000 standards of which are employed at this Company’s own box making
factory for the production of box material.
IRON MANUFACTURE.
In its character of an ancient ironworks, Hellefors Works still carry on an
extensive manufacture of iron and steel. At Sikfors and Scifvenfors, for example, the
Company has blast furnaces in which, with the help of charcoal from the Company’s
own forests, there are smelted exclusively ores low in phosphorus and sulphur. The
pig iron produced is, therefore, of the very highest quality. The pig iron is further
manufactured at the steel works at Hellefors. These Works which, after an extensive
tire have been entirely rebuilt and modernised, embrace 3 Siemens-Martin furnaces
for acid and basic production, and 3 up-to-date hot rolling mills. At the rolling mills
there is manufactured both ordinary soft and merchant iron of the usual dimensions
and profiles and, more especially, rolled steel with the ordinary carbon percentages.
In the international iron and steel market, Hellefors is specialty known for its
production of hard rolled wire in rings, hollow and solid drill steel, and octagon and
hexagon rolled tool steel, as well as nail iron in rings, both fiat and square, etc. The
capacity of the rolling mills amounts to about 24.000 tons rolled iron and steel yearly.
