both of raw material and
manufactured goods.
WOOD
MANUFACTURE.
The timber
produced by the Company’s
forests is manufactured
at a number of saw mills
and wood pulp mills.
The largest saw mills
is at Hellefors, where the
River Svartälfven is
crossed by the Bergslagen Railway. At this saw mills, which embraces 7 frames, the yearly
production amounts to 7.000—9,000 standards. In addition, Hellefors timber is sawn
at the mills at Elfvestorp and Tyfors, each having a yearly capacity of about 1,000
standards. The sawn goods are exported via the northern Vänern harbours and Gothenburg.
At Laxå. situated on the state railway line between Stockholm and Gothenburg,
the Company erected during 1920. an up-to-date 3-frame saw mills, with a yearly
capacity of 4.000 standards. The products from the mill are exported via the northern
Vänern harbours and Gothenburg.
Timber which is unsuited for sawing goes to the Company’s Wood Pulp- and
Cellulose Factories. At Hellefors, for instance, the Company has a modern wood pulp
factory, with 5 grinding machines. The productive capacity amounts to 18,000 tons
of wet pulp, or 6,000 tons of dry, hot ground pulp. The pulp is sold dry or wet,
according to the demand of the market for the moment.
The manufacture of cellulose is carried on at Fredriksberg and Laxå. At
Fredriks-berg the Company has a sulphite works with 4 digesters and a yearly production of 5,000
tons, and also a sulphate works, with 4 digesters and a yearly production of 8,000
tons. At Laxå there is a sulphite works with 3 digesters and a yearly capacity of 2,800 tons.
All the works mentioned so far are on the estates of the Company’s Works in the
Bergslagen. By the purchase of the two Gothenburg Companies, Strömman it Larsson and Niels
