While much of this material undoubtedly could
be gathered together without expense, the society
must be prepared to pay for no inconsiderable part
of it, if it be its intention to establish an institution
of permanent importance. But the regular income
of the society can hardly be counted on for the
establishment and development of a Swedish-Americau
library and museum. It must offer its members some
substantial return for their fees in the form of
publications ; and as the number of its members grows, and
consequently the income of the society from fees
increases, its publications should be made more and
more valuable. For the library a special fund must
be collected, a fund of not less than $100,000. It
should not be impossible to collect this sum, as this
library would stand for all time as a monument to
what the Swedish race in America has accomplished;
it would stand for the Swedish race as a whole and
should have the support of all, irrespectively of
creed and party. It should be the duty of the
finance committee to take immediate steps to secure
this endowment.

Respectful 1 y submitted,

A. G. S. JOSEPI-ISON,

C. G. WALLENIUS,

GUST. N. SWAN,

Committee on Library and Museum.
March 20th, 1906.

Acting on suggestions made by members of
the committee, the society resolved: That a

library be established in Chicago; that the society
endeavor to acquire the O. N. Nelson collection; that
the question of establishing a museum be put aside
