CONSTITUTION
81. The name of this Society shall be THE SWEDISH
HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA.
Its principal office shall be in Chciago.
Its objects shall be:
First: To promote the study of the history of the Swedes in
America and their descendants.
Second: To collect a library and museum illustrating their
development in America.
Third: To issue publications relating to the history of the
literature in American universities.
Fourth: To encourage the study of Swedish history and
literature in American universities.
82. Any person approved by the Committee on Membership
may become a member of the Society upon payment of $2, and
may remain a member by paying 82 a year. Members who have
been in arrears more than a year after notice has been given
shall lose their membership in the Society.
83. Honorary members may be elected by unanimous vote,
upon recommendation of the Council.
64. Any member who has paid to the Society, In one sum,
850 shall be a life member and exempt from further dues.
85. All receipts from life fees and all donations not made for
a specific purpose shall constitute an endowment fund, which
shall be invested, and of which only the income shall be used.
66. The affairs of the Society, Including the adoption of
by-laws, shall be in the hands of a Council of fifteen members,
who shall be elected by the Society at its annual meeting, for
three years, five each year, except that at the first election five
shall be elected for one year, five for two years, and five for
three years. The Council shall have authority to fill all
vacancies among its members that occur between annual meetings.
Any person who has donated 8500.00 in one sum for the purposes
of the Society may be elected an honorary member of the
Council.
87. The Council shall, upon Its election, annually elect from
among Its own members a President, a Vice President and a
