A list of all the books and periodicals In the library is
being prepared and will be printed in the next Year-Book;
a number of the more important gifts of the year may he
mentioned here: Mr. Gustavus N. Swan in Sioux City, Ia.s
lias given a large collection of Swedish -An i er ican
newspapers; a similar collection will in a few days be sent to
the library from Prof, C. W. Foss of Augustana College;
the Royal Academy of Sciences in Stockholm has donated
several of its publications, among them those that were
published in connection with the celebration of the 200th •
anniversary of Linné s birth; the Swedish Methodist Book
Concern in Chicago has again remembered us; Messrs.
P. A. Norstedt & Söner in Stockholm have presented to the
Society a number of books relating to America and published
by them; and last, but not least, the minute books and
other papers of the Linné Monument Association have been
deposited with the Society by Mr. Charles A, Eklund.

That the Society has been able to secure a suitable room
for the housing of its library is due to the liberality of its
treasurer, Mr. John R, Lindgren, who has promised to pay
one year’s rent for the room, the amount being $50. Mr,
A. E. Johnson of New York, the chairman of the Society’s
Finance Committee, has given $60 in cash for the
equipment of the library with book cases and other suitable
furniture; he has, in addition to this, subscribed the sum of
$100 towards a library fund, subject to the condition that
nine other subscription, each of the same amount, be
secured.

The council has met three times during the past year,
and the Executive Committee four times. The vacancy
caused by the resignation of the Society’s President, Prof.
C. G. Lagergren, has been temporarily filled by the election
of Mr. J. E, Hiliberg as member of the Council; our vice
President, Mr. C. G-. Wallenius, has served as acting
President since October. Mr. E, W, Olson, Chicago, was
appointed to represent the Society at the annual meeting
of the American Historical Association in December*

As the Council regards it to be of great importance that
interested Americans, especially descendants of Swedish-
