From the time Håkanson resigned the
congregation was vacant until 1871, when Rev. J. 0.
Silje-ström accepted the pastorship. From 1860 to 1870
a number of families came from Sweden and located
7 miles east of Swede Point, on the marshy ground
around Goose Lake. This locality was called
‘Svamplandet.” Rev. Siljeström began to hold
meetings among these people. Plans were made to
organize a congregation, but at last these people
united with the congregation at Swede Point.

In 1878 Siljeström moved to Boone, Iowa, and
Rev. A, Sundberg became pastor. ’While Rev,
Sundberg was at Swede Point he worked with great
zealousness to induce the conference to build a
ladies’ seminary at Swede Point. Location was
selected and stone hauled for the foundation.
How-ever, the conference did not agree and the matter
was dropped. The movement was not without
result, as it caused Augustana College to grant
coeducation. Rev. Sundberg moved away in 1885, and Rev.
0- A. Landell became the pastor. He served the
congregation until 1892. Rev. J. E. Holtz was the
uext pastor and he remained until 1899. Rev. C. E.
Benson accepted the call in 1901, and he remained
until 1906, when lie moved to Stillwater, Minn. The
Present pastor, C. 0. Morland, took charge of the
e°ugregation in 1907.

A Swedish parochial school was established as
early as 1864. Since that time there has been held a
Swedish parochial school regularly every summer.
This school, together with the Swedish Sunday
school, organized in 1870, have been the efficient
means to promote and preserve the Swedish language
