och taga undantag af os för efter som dät sir ut i vår så
tror jag att halva Swerget komer hit i år. Där var så
rolit att motaga farbrors för di är så nöigda mäd detta
nya land..... Jag har lagat til och skal väva matter att
hava på golvet. Jag har klipt får och di hade 40 marker
ull. 13 får. Vi har elva läm.......

Dear parents, brothers, and sisters: —
May the grace and peace of God be with you all!
First of all, we thank you for the welcome letter. It
was a great pleasure to see Uncle Claus and his family,
and we are glad they are so well satisfied in America. If
they have good health, I believe they will prosper. They
are staying with us for the present and are content and
happy.
And now, dear parents, I want to thank you for the
sleigh bells which you surprised us with. The Lord only
knows when I will have an opportunity to reciprocate the
favors you have showered on us. I do not understand
how you can do so much for your children. I hope your
generosity will not entail on your part a sacrifice of the
comforts of life. I wish I might be with you in person
in order to be of some service to you in your old age.
Last fall it was our intention to sell our farm and
take a trip to Sweden, but events decided otherwise. If
my health remains good, however, I expect to visit Sweden
sometime. It would be most interesting to see my native
land again, and still more interesting to meet you. I wish
you were here; we would endeavor to take good care of
you if you made your home with us. It would be a
pleasure to make your personal acquaintance.
This is the most backward spring of which I have
recollection since coming to America. Of late we have had
so much rain that many have been unable to finish
planting corn, or maize. I finished my planting almost two
weeks ago; I think it will soon spring up. Wheat and
