According to reports, conditions in Sweden must be
very unfortunate for the poor and the bulk of the people.
I believe they would do better to come to America. I
have nothing further to write; we will write again the
latter part of July, if we are in good health. At that time
we will write about sundry happenings; this time you
will have to be content with little. I will conclude with
a thousand greetings to you from us. We are faithfully
yours until death.

Dear parents, sisters, and brothers-in-law:—
I must thank you for all the gilts. I have never given
you anything in return. Everything was welcome beyond
my power of expression. It was a real treat to see our
relatives and friends, and I hope we may see you next.
After what I have been told about Sweden, I doubt that
I will ever go there. Aunt is certain that you, mother and
father, would be content to live with us. According to
indications this spring, I believe half of Sweden will come
to America this year. It was a great pleasure to welcome
Uncle Claus and family; they are so favorable impressed
with this, new country.......
I have made preparations to weave carpets for our
floors. I have sheared thirteen sheep, and have forty
pounds of wool. We have eleven lambs.......
