From Dr. Erland Carl »son’s Letter File.

Many of the more interesting letters from the fifties were
addressed to Rev. Erland Carlsson in Chicago. This city was
a very important thoroughfare for Swedish immigrants in
America ; and Rev. Carlsson occupied a position among his
countrymen here which in some respects was similar to that of Rev.
O. G. Hedstrom in New York. The requests for his services,
from both Sweden and America, were both many and diverse.
