der Unrulie und dem Qualm der Stadt hinaus
sehnen nach der ungekünstelten Freude eines kurzen
Aufenthaltes in dieser herrlichen Landschaft.
Unser Bild zeigt uns Jonsered von der
östlichen Seite, von dem sogenannten Monumentsberge
aus gesehen. Die Eisenbahn folgt dem Strande des
reizenden Sees Aspen. Am westlichen Ende dieses Sees,
bei der sogenannten Monumentsbucht, wurden vor
einigen Jahren die grossen Füllungsarbeiten
gemacht, welche, wie wir uns erinnern, allen
Austren-gungen trotzten und dem Staate nicht unbedeutende
Summen kosteten. Im Fond sehen wir das
Herrenhaus von Jonsered auf dem Gipfel des
waldbekränzten Berges. Das Gut gehört den Erben des
verstorbenen Kaufmannes, Hrn Gibson, und bildet
zusammen mit den am Fusse des Berges
liegenden Fabriken eine Besitzung von höchst
bedeutendem Werthe, und zwar nicht der naturschönen Lage,
sondern auch der guten und wohlangesehenen
Fabrikate halber, welche als Segeltuch, Baumwollengarn
und Gusssachen davon geliefert werden.
Dicht bei der Station Jonsered befinden sich
zwei Denkmäler, freilich nicht von grösser
geschichtlicher Wichtigkeit, aber doch nicht ohne Interesse,
als eine Erinnerung an die grossen Verdienste
eines Privatmannes um das Vaterland. Das eine ist
eine in den Felsen eingehauene Inschrift folgenden
Inhalts: „Zu Ehren des Barons das Ahlström für
die Anlage dieses Weges auf seine Kosten 1749“.
Das andere, ein Obelisk von Granit, trägt folgende
Inschrift: „Denkmal, beschlossen von Gustav III,
errichtet von Carl XIII, dem Freiherren Clas
Ahlström, auf dessen Kosten diese Landstrasse gebaut
ist“. Die Veranlassung dieser Denkmäler ist wohl
das geringste von Ahlströmers Verdiensten.
Dasselbe beschränkt sich hier auf eine Weganlage,
welche jetzt zum Theil von der Eisenbahn mit
Beschlag belegt ist.
Das Stationsgebäude selbst ist dritter Gasse
und aufgeführt in dem geschmackvollen und
natürlichen Styl, der bei vielen der
Staats-Eisenbahn-Gebäude in Anwendung gebracht ist. Seine Lage
ist sehr pittoresk. Dicht bei demselben ist in
leichtem Schweizerstyl ein Restaurationslokal aufgeführt,
von dessen Veranda man die herrlichste Aussicht
hat.
Utmed stranden af den täcka sjön Aspen löper
jernvägen fram. Det är vid denna sjös vestliga
ända, vid den så kallade monumentsviken, som för
ett par år sedan de stora fyllningsarbetena gjordes,
hvilka, såsom vi minnas, trotsade alla
ansträngningar och kostade staten ej obetydliga summor. I
fonden se vi Jonsereds herregård öfverst på det
skogbeväxta berget. Den tillhör aflidne
Grosshandlaren Gibsons sterbhus och utgör tillika med den
nedanför liggande fabriken en possession af högst
betydligt värde, och detta ej blott för det
natursköna uti dess läge, utan ock lör de goda och väl
ac-crediterade varor, som i form af segelduk,
bomullsgarn och gjutgods utgå från dess fabriker.
Invid Jonsereds station finnas tvenne
monumenter, väl ej af stor historisk betydelse, men dock af
intresse såsom en påminnelse om en enskild
persons stora förtjenst om fäderneslandet. Det ena är
en i berget inhuggen inskription af denna lydelse:
“Baron Clas Ahlström 1749 till heder för denna vägs
anläggning och bekostnad.“ Det andra, en obelisk
af granit, har denna inskription: “Minnesvård
beslutad af Gustaf III, upprest af Carl XIII af
Friherre Clas Ahlström, på hvars bekostnad denna
allmänna väg blifvit anlagd“. Anledningen till dessa
minnesvårdar är väl den ringaste bland
Ahlströmers förtjenst er. Den inskränker sig här till en
väganläggning, som nu mera till en del är tagen i
beslag af jernvägen.
bjeliva Stationshuset, af tredje rangen, är
upp-fördt i den smakfulla och okonstlade stil, som
till-lämpats vid många af statens jernvägsbyggnader.
Dess läge är synnerligen pittoreskt. Invid
detsamma är i lätt schweitserstil uppförd en
restaurationslokal, från hvars veranda man har den herrligaste
utsigt.

Our engraving represents a view of Jonsered,
seen from the eastern side, or the so called
Monument-Hill. The rail-road runs along the bank of
the Lake Aspen. It was at the west end of this
Lake, at the place called “The Monument-Creek“
that the extensive earth works were made, a couple
of years ago, which defied all the^ efforts of the
engineers and cost the State considerable sums of
money.
On the top of the wood-crowned hill in the
back ground, we see the mansion-house of Jonsered.
It is the property of the heirs ^ of the deceased M:r
Gibson, and forms together with the factory below,
one of the most valuable possessions, not only on
account of the beauty of the landscape surrounding
it, but also as regards the well accredited articles,
which in the form of sail-cloth, cotton-yarn and
cast-iron goods are produced in the different
departments of its works. Near the Jonsered Station,
there are two memorials^ which although they have
no great historical associations attached to them,
are nevertheless, not without significance, being in
remembrance of a private individual, who by his
works deserved well of Lis country. The one is
simply an inscription, hewn in the rock, which runs
as follows: “In honor of Baron Clas Ahlstromer,
who had this road made at his own expense“. The
other is an obelisk of granite, bearing this
inscription: “This Monument, was resolved upon by
Gu-stavus III, and erected by Charles XIII to the
memory of Baron Clas Ahlstromer, at whose
expense this public road was made“.
The cause of these^ memorials is one of the
least of Ahlstromers merits, being confined to a line
of road which has now partly been encroached upon
by the Rail-road. The building of the Station, which
is of the third rank, is erected in that tasteful and
simple style, which has been carried out in many of
the buildings along the line. Its site is particularly
picturesque. Near the Station is a house of
refreshment, built in the light Swiss style, from the
verandah of which a most beautiful prospect of the
landscape is obtained.
