westin, brev från john durie 2 5 3

our freinds of the effect of my negotiation; Now I haue nothing
to adde except I would speake of conjectures & complayntes, but
these are subiects wherein I take no delight, I must depend vpon
a prouidence for to subsist.

When I am out of this Laborinth I will bee more carefull to
enforme ni}r Lord Prim[ate] & my Lord of Duresme, then hitherto
I haue been & I hope giue them occasion in this worke, to shewe
themselues more then hitherto I haue been able. I hope Sr [-Tho-[mas]-] {+Tho-
[mas]+} wonted fauour & Patronage to recom[m]end & relieue mee
in tymes of want & extremity whereinto 1 seeme to precipitate my
selfe carelesly, will not bee wantinge soe longe as I walk vprightly
without partiality; God is able to turne all to the best, Let vs
therefore trust to him in well doeinge and p[er]seuere vnto the end.
Com[m]end mee to all freinds, pray instantly for mee that I may
come fairely off from hence, for if it please God to appease the

opened here, of w:ch more God willinge hereafter.

Lords Bishops the whole flowre of the Clergie of Sweden was
gathered together till the number of an hundred p[er]sons at least. I
finding ye multitude soe extreame great & knowing the p[re]iudices
w:ch they had already, and what might bee wrought further vpon
them by the popular insinuations & p[er]swasions of the B[isho]pp
of Westerose I thought it necessary to giue vp a twofold information,
the one concerninge my hope, and the grounds of my solicitacon
shewing that with p[erjmission and foreknowledge of my sup[er]iours,
and with consent of other forrayne Churches, I laboured for a
Theo-logicall way of Composinge differences, in Religion, the other
Concerninge the particular heads &: passages of my treatie with the
diuines of this Church shewinge with whom I had dealt & what
was proposed summarily to euery one, what answere was giuen, how
the B[isho]pp of Westerose had stopped the proceedings, and that
