Paa Midtbygningens — Musébygningens — Façade
er en aaben Vestibule, hvortil Indgang gjennem en
granitklædt Portikus med fire joniske Søiler af Granit.
I Vestibulen er 6 Løb Granittrapper og et Galleri med
14 Søiler. Paa Frontespiçen er anbragt en bevinget
Genius, som holder en Minervastatue i Haanden. I denne
Bygning er indrettet Lokaler, bestemte for
Forelæsninger og Samlinger, vedkommende det medicinske,
anatomiske, zoologiske, physiologiske, botaniske og
mineralogiske Studium samt for den ethnographiske
Samling.
I den østre Fløibygning — domus academica —
er foruden Auditorier, Beboelsesværelser og Kontorer
for Universitetets Kvæstor og Sekretær, Rum for den
oldnordiske Samling og Myntsamlingen, Arbeidsværelser
for disse Samlingers Bestyrere samt Universitetets
Festsal. Denne halvcirkelrunde Sal, som gaar gjennem
saavel første som anden Hovedetage, er smukt
dekoreret og afgiver Plads for omtrent 300 Tilhørere.
Myntsamlingen bestaar af over 40,000 Mynter og
Medailler, hvoriblandt en stor Del norske fra
Middelalderen. Aaben Mandag og Fredag fra 1—2.
Den oldnordiske Samling tæller ca. 9,000 Nr.; den
har, sammenlignet med de store Samlinger i Sverige
og Danmark, kun faa Sager fra Stenalderen og
Bronce-alderen, hvorimod Jernalderen er meget stærkt
repræsenteret, især den yngre Jernalder (Vikingetiden, ca.
700—1000 Aar e. Chr). Ingen af de skandinaviske
Landes Samlinger overgaar den i Rigdom paa Vaaben
og Redskaber fra denne Periode. Af de Samlingen
tilhørende Sager fra senere Tider, kan som det værdi-
The façade of the centre building (the university
museum) is distinguished by a lofty vestibule, the
approach to which is through a granite-faced portico,
with four Ionic pillars of red granite. Communicating
with the vestibule are six flights of steps and a pillared
gallery. Above the entablature there is a winged figure,
clasping an image of Minerva. This building contains
the professors’ lecture-rooms, and Collections connected
with the following branches of science, — Medicine,
anatomy, zoology, physiology, botany, mineralogy, and
ethnography.
The main entrance to each of the wings — which
face the court — is adorned with four columns and
three lofty porticals. Broad steps of hewn granite form
the approach. Exclusive of lecture-rooms and
dwelling-apartments, and offices for the questor and secretary,
the right wing (domus academica) contains the
collection of Northern Antiquities, that of coins and
medals, work-rooms for the keepers of those
departments, and the University Assembly Room. This
semicircular hall, which extends upwards through the first
and second stories of the building, is finely decorated,
and affords room for an audience of three hundred
persons.
The Collection of Coins and Medals contains
upwards of 40,000 objects, a large number being
Norwegian mediæval coins. May be visited Monday and
Friday 1-2.
The Collection of Northern Antiquities comprises
6,700 objects. As compared with the grand collections
I in Sweden and Denmark, it has but few relics of the
