divisions would then constitute a synod with its
officials, but the new synod, assuming the name of
Norwegian Augustana Synod, would adopt the same articles
of faith; the two divisions would cooperate in
maintaining institutions for the training of students and
support of professors; furthermore, there should exist

conference meetings.”*)

The motion was adopted and a committee elected and
instructed to present recommendations at the next
meeting, it being expressly stipulated, that the
propositions then adopted by the Synod would be submitted to
the Norwegian congregations for consideration and
ratification before a final decision would be made in
the matter. The committee consisted of 0. J. Hatlestad,
J. Olsen, Am. Johnson, Jens T. Venem and A. Wright.

enumerates and discusses the important matters that
would come up at the next convention, but not a line
is found in this letter that a suggestion for a division
would be presented, and later when Hemlandet gave a
report of the meeting, the action that was taken in this
matter is not even mentioned. A perusal of thé letters
