apothecium, in water 0.5 111111 broad, is 150 u. deep with Ihe 60 a high
thecium going round the edge. Hypothecium to 70 [j. Ihick, pale brown.
Apices of paraphyses 4—5 u.. discrete, yellowish brown, thin-walled
as in f. tenuis. Gonidia of|en 15—18 u. diam., sections KOI1+ yellowish.

Nova An gli a. H. Willey, ön corlex (U.). United with two
other pieces of bark, one covered by /?. annulata n. sp., the other by
R. i>ohjs]>ora.

8. R. dakotensis H. Magn. n. sp.

Thallus effusus, cinereo-albescens, granulosus, KOH+ flavus.
Apo-thecia crebra, minuta, adnata, disco fuscoatro, piano vel convexo,
mar-gine thallino subgranulato cincto. Hypothecium pallidum vel
1’ulvo-fuscum. Thecium altitudine mediocri, apicibus paraphysarum
fusco-capitatis. Sporae minutae, pariete tenni, uniformi.

Exs.: Cumm. 163 b (S.) s. n. R. sophodes e. exigua.

Thallus partly brownish- or ashy-grev, rather thin, rough.
Apo-thecia in part of thallus almost contiguous, 0.3—0.5 mm wide, margin
hardly prominent, often rough.

Apothecia about 0.2 mm thick, sometimes with 0.22 mm thallus
below, pale part about 150 ij. dee[). Gonidial stratum up iniö Ihe edge
and continuous all round with 7—10 or even 15—20 ij. large gonidia,
hut sometimes absent at one side. Irregular small parts of corlex seen
ön lower side, hyaline, with about 3 wide cells. Exciple varying,
sometimes 15— 20 ^ thick all round with 1.5 [j. cells, hyaline,
sometimes forming the edge and dark brown, 15—25 ij. thick and going
inwards at base for 85 ix, sometimes dark only at the very edge.
Hypothecium 30—35 [j. thick, hyaline with intricate hyphae, or often dark
yellowish brown to 100 [j. thick, bill then separated from the dark
exciple bv a paler stratum. Thecium 70—80 jjl high, hyaline, 1+ dark
blue like parts of hypothecium and exciple; apices of paraphyses dark
yellowish brown, capitate, 3.5—5 ij., discrete in KOH. Spores 8, 11—
13X6—7 [a, pale brownish green, thin-walled, constricted at the thin
septum.

S. I) a k o t a: Near Brookings, 1895, ön plum trees, Thos. A.
Williams in Cumm. 163 1). Associated with Leciclea cf. achristotera (thec.
and especially hvp. with oil-drops, conidia about 20X0.8 ja, very
arcuate).

This species can not be brought to exigua ön account of the
gra-nular thallus, the thin-walled spores, the often darkened hypothecium
and the rough apothecium margin.
