Hypothecium 35—50 |j., dense, partly yellowish, 1+ dark lillie. Thecium
80 fj„ hyaline, 1+ dark hlue, apices of parapliyses subdiscrete, dark
greenisli brown, clumsily capilate, 4—5 |j.. Spores 8, 15- 17X7.5 8 [j.,
± constricted at centre, wall uniform, thin like septum.

This species resembles R. annulata in the thin, pale thallus, and
the appressed, marginated apothecia hut is separated by the presence
of a cellulär cortex, by the capitate parapliyses and Ihe thin-walled,
uniform spore wall. Probably their distribution is different.
12. R. applanata H. Magn. n. sp.
Thallus determinatus, iexpansus, tenuissimus, albocinereus,
con-tinuus, subscabridus, KOH—. Apothecia uniformiter dispersa, adpressa,
minuta, disco fuscoatro, piano, margine tenui thallino cincto.
Hypothecium crassum, hyalinum. Thecium superne olivaceofuscum, apicibus
paraphysarum KOII icontiguis, fusco-clavatis. Sporae diu simplices,
demum vage uniseplatae, pariete aequaliter crasso, lamella centrali
indistincta.
Thallus limited by a dark hypothalline line to other lichens, at
least 3X2.5 cm large. Apothecia 0.3—0.6 mm wide, broadly attached.
Apolhecia only 0.2 mm lliick, KOH—, Pd—, pale part 150 [j. deep.
Margin 50—70 |j. lliick witli 35—40 ij. thick gonidial stratum to edge,
gonidia 7-10 ij. diam. Sometimes traces of a cortex are seen laterally,
17—20 |j. lliick, hyaline, cellulär, with 2—4 jj. large, thin-walled, irregular
cells. Exciple 20—25 |j. at edge, tapering downwards and indistinctly
limited at base, with hypothecium 100 ij. high al centre, hyaline, cellulär,
cells 2—3 |j., irregular, 1+ gradually pale blue to the gonidia. Thecium
70—80 ij. high, 1+ dark blue; upper 10—12 |j. olivaceous brown with
contiguous li])s of paraphyses in much gelatine, contiguous also in KOH,
apices now 3—4 u., + irregularly brown-capped. Spores 8, dark
olivaceous, 17—19X8.5 ij.. long simple with Ihick walls, finally with a 1.5—
2 ij. thick septum without distinct central lamella between Ihe two
globular or ovoid himina.

Characterized by the thin, subscabrid, pale thallus, the plane,
dispersed apothecia and especiallv bv Ihe shape of the spores with lliick
wall, resembling those in roboris.
