Huntersville 1930, Fred \V. Gray (hl) Mn), a few apothecia inixed with
Anaptycliia detonsa.
The new species resembles at the first glance a Lecanora species,
especially L. glabrata 011 account of the whilish, smooth thallus and
the small apothecia. An unusual charader is the presence of small
granules in the gonidial stratuni and the epitliecium, where Ihev do
not dissolve in KOH.
16. K. annulata H. Magn. n. sp.
Thallus tenuissimus vel evanescens. Apothecia dispersa, minuta,
0.3—0.5 mm diam., rotundata, adpressa, disco fuscoatro, piano vel
leviter convexo, margine thallode tenuissimo, cinereo-albo, cincto.
Cortex apothecioriun deficiens. Paraphyses graciles, apicibus levissime
incrassatis, fuscescentibus. Sporae octonae, mediocres, pariete
inaequa-liter incrassato, septo subtenui.
Apothecial sections in water about 0.2 mm thick. convex, pale part
150 [x deep, KOH—. Edge about 35 [j. thick with iopaque gonidial
stratum, continuous below and 70—100 [j. thick. Exci])le indistinct.
Hypothecium thin, to 35 u„ dense. Thecium 85—95 [j. high, 1+ dark
blue like hypothecium down to gonidia; upper 35 [j. pale fulvous, Pd—,
paraphyses contiguous, 1—1.5 |j., apices also in KOH contiguous,
indistinct or 1.5—2 [x, pale brown. Spores 8, 17—20X8.5—10 |j., apical
wall 3—3.5 [j., not convex inwards, septum 2—3 [j., central lamella
distinct. — Gonidia still opaque in KOH, + distinct in Pd, medullary
cells in Pd 2—7X2 pi, thin-walled.
Nova A n g 1 i a, leg. Willey (U.), ön smooth bark, s. n. R.
milliaria, which is present ön one piece of bark like R. polyspora ön
another piece.
The new species is characterized by the scanty thallus, the
scat-lered, whitish marginated, ± plane, black apothecia, the thin
paraphyses, only slightly thickened at apices and the relatively broad spores.

Thallus effuse, very thin, very minutely granular or
subfurfura-ceous, pale blackish grey. Apothecia 0.2—0.4 mm wide, dispersed,
sessile, disc black, plane, margin whitish, prominent. — Apothecia
about 0.2 mm thick, pale part 150 |j. deep, KOH—. Margin 50—60 |j.
thick, ± filled with the greyish gonidial stratum, continuous below.
Cortex 17—20 u,. greyish hyaline without distinct cells in water, in
